Cannot log into E17 after updates on Ubuntu 9.04 NBR

Hello I am running Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix, and was happily running E17 ontop of it until last night, I install some updates (I believe for CUPS) and now I only have access to Gnome. When I try to log into E it sends me back to the log in screen after doing the two drums from Ubuntu like I typed the password wrong, however Gnome works just fine.

I don't know if this will help, but I have had a similar problem with pclos when the tmp directory is full.

Just a thought.

Where did you get the enlightenment packages from? They are not present in the default Ubuntu repos?
Also, have you tried reinstalling enlightenment?
Also, try renaming any hidden files or folders (hidden = starts with a period ".") for enlightenment in your home directory from (for example): .whatever-enlightenment to .whatever-enlightenment.bak. Then try to to login to enlightenment again. All the whatever-enlightenment config files should be recreated from scratch again when you do this.
