i have ubuntu Dapper Drake installed .. and i find it very impressive...
but today it decided it won't let me log in ..
i enter username and password ..
CORRECTLY
and i'm presented with the same pages asking for username and password..
It doesn't advise; Incorrect username or password...
Any ideas??
Does it go immediately back to the "username" input field, or does it look like it's starting to load the desktop, but then bounce back to the login screen?
Maybe you accidentally had caps-lock on when you created the account? Linux is case-sensitive remember
hello,
you could boot with live CD and edit file /etc/passwd to remove "x" in root's line:
root:x:0:0::/root:/bin/bash
root::0:0::/root:/bin/bash
reboot and press "entrer" for password ,then execute "passwd" to set the new one
hi fukawi2
your experience mirrors my own..
as a newbie i updated all ..
and ubuntu went backwards ..
and like you..
i now approach udates ...
with extreme caution ..
but this time ..
I DIDN'T update ..
i just finished a session..
where ALL was well..
and then when i started again ..
i was presented with the dissatisfied login screen phenomonon
I'm not sure what category I fall into; whether in was a result of a bad update, or a "space" issue. I'm inclined to think it was the result of the update as this is a recent install of Kubuntu Edgy a few months ago. It has run perfectly until an automatic update the other night.
I turned this machine on and attempted to log-in as I normally would. The screen left as if to log in, and returned within 5 seconds to the Login Screen.
Being new to all things Linux, I'm at a loss. I've heard other mention "create another login", or..."clean up some disk space", in the event it was a lack of real estate, but not being able to do much beyond using the "esc" key at the post in an attempt to login from the command line, I'm a complete loss.
Does anyone have a solution or some "how too's" on this issue?
