Does it go immediately back to the "username" input field, or does it look like it's starting to load the desktop, but then bounce back to the login screen?

Maybe you accidentally had caps-lock on when you created the account? Linux is case-sensitive remember

Hi fukawi2

as you say...
when i try to log in..
the band strikes up ..
with the opening chords ....
and then..
bounces back to the login screen...

I suppose i could re-instal and opt for automatic log-in..
i just wondered if there was an easier way..
and ..yes ... i did check the caps-lock

hello,
you could boot with live CD and edit file /etc/passwd to remove "x" in root's line:
root:x:0:0::/root:/bin/bash
root::0:0::/root:/bin/bash
reboot and press "entrer" for password ,then execute "passwd" to set the new one

I have a similar problem with mine - After you installed, did you run the Automatic Update and download / install all available updates?

Mine does the same thing after updating, so I just don't update.

If you create a new user (other than the one you ran the update under), you should be able to login fine...

Kubuntu Fails to Login after Update...

I'm not sure what category I fall into; whether in was a result of a bad update, or a "space" issue. I'm inclined to think it was the result of the update as this is a recent install of Kubuntu Edgy a few months ago. It has run perfectly until an automatic update the other night.

I turned this machine on and attempted to log-in as I normally would. The screen left as if to log in, and returned within 5 seconds to the Login Screen.

Being new to all things Linux, I'm at a loss. I've heard other mention "create another login", or..."clean up some disk space", in the event it was a lack of real estate, but not being able to do much beyond using the "esc" key at the post in an attempt to login from the command line, I'm a complete loss.

Does anyone have a solution or some "how too's" on this issue?

Thanks,

Tim
