Cannot install anything: "Restarting zephyr host manager" hangs

I am using Ubuntu Feisty.
When I want to install a new package (with apt-get install <package>) I get:

Selecting previously deselected package airstrike-common.
(Reading database ... 156295 files and directories currently installed.)
...
and then hangs with
Restarting zephyr host manager:

This happens both for apt-get and the graphical package manager.
If I cannot get the fixed, I literally have to reinstall....

Try apt-cache gencaches

I think I fixed it the following way:

Turns out zephyr is pretty useless, but somehow needed. So I reinstalled
this package. Turns out it is not available from the Ubuntu archives, but from
some other place. After I reinstalled the package everything was fine.

I noticed that when I try to install just about anything, the archives are gone.
Is this because feisty is not supported any longer?
