That should of worked. And I see that you uncommented:

GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
That should of given you 10 seconds of the Grub Menu.
From what I read, if you only have one linux os, it will not show you a grub menu.

If you have 2 or more, it does show the menu.

Can't say I like that:-
Wonder why the Ubuntu Dev's made it that way?

Does holding down shift show you Grub? (if you've tried it)

Since you like Ubuntu Fixit7 you should like Debian.-

Maybe dual boot someday with Debian?

Now I can run sudo update-grub successfully.
