Which DVD? I know I can't rip one of the Generation Kill DVDs I have to my HDD no matter how hard I try. Is the DVD damaged? Is it different in some way? Does anyone else have the same thing on DVD to test?
Sadly, I think you may need to purchase another copy. If that doesn't work then something is afoot...
I can not play a DVD movie with VLC. I am using verion 2.2.2 Weatherwax.
You've been here long enough to know to provide details when asking a question. You don't tell us what version of Ubuntu, don't tell us what error(s)/message(s)/behavior(s) you're seeing, what you've done/tried, or even if this has ever worked at all, with ANY DVD. So what do you think we'll be able to tell you?
Not stressed at all. And instead of junk like that, try "Sorry, I should have posted details". And I'm certainly not your "bro"...wouldn't be too happy if I was.

VLC gives NO error message. When I try to open disk, nothing happens.
Really??? Did you try starting it from a terminal window vs. the launcher? Because that WILL return messages.

My distro is on left side of every post. Version 16.04
And how many people have MULTIPLE distros listed on their profiles/"left side of every post"??? How are we supposed to know what machine you're talking about, exactly?

And I have already installed the library shown in your link.
And we can't know that unless you tell us.
So we're back to "there's no way to diagnose this issue, since you haven't given us anything to work with". Just saying "nothing happens" gives us no diagnostic information at all. Try starting VLC from a terminal window in X, and watching what happens when you insert that DVD. And again, has this EVER played a DVD, or is this a new issue?? https://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_command-line_help
