You know. The ones that enable you to view video or listen to radio at bbc.co.uk, or watch vids at youtube. That kind of plugin.

I only have four gigs to play with, so I'd like to use a lighter browser. But not a text only one, or one that has problems with frames or css.

Seamonkey is a bit lighter than firefox. Also depends on gui. If KDE then you can add the plugins to it and use them from there under konqueror.

or you could try SwiftFox (get it with Automatix,it might be called IceWeasel)it's much much lighter

The problem I've found is that every browser available for Ubuntu/Xubuntu pulls its plugins from the Firefox plugins folder (obviously Konqueror is an exception), which means: uninstall Firefox and you also uninstall Mozplugger and the Mplayer Mozilla plugin; thus leaving you with a browser that you can read and look at pictures on but not much else.

If there must be a central plugins folder wouldn't it be better if it were browser independent so people trying to run Ubuntu on low end systems (like off a 4 gig flash drive ) don't end up with crippled browsers should they choose to use Epiphany, Kazehakase, Iceweasel, etc?

I'm having related problem. (500 P3 processor, 256k ram, Debian 4.0 with lots of tweaking, Gnome Desktop, Iceweasel <=firefox?> browser) Youtube plays as a series of frames 1 second apart- and I've never got sound with internet.

What plugins should I be using please?

Or will I be better off with KDE/Konqueror?

Where does Konqueror keep it's plugins, and where do I find the appropriate flash plugins for it? Can I simply softlink the Firefox plugin, or are they incompatible?

I later found the problem was with my hardware- worn hard disk was slowing everything down. With a reasonable amount of ram & processor speed eg 512k & 3 gHZ (you will probably get by with less but I don't know exactly how much is critical) adobe flashplayer will work, http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/downl...ShockwaveFlash, you'll know what to do.-Phil
