Can a root account be created?
nothing more to say
|
No.
...but, in Debian at least, Users assigned to the adm, staff, or sudo Groups have additional privledges. |
Yes.
Read this page. It explains why there's no root account in Ubuntu (and, really, why you don't need one). Then, at the bottom of the page, there's an explanation for how to re-enable a more traditional Linux model of root/user: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RootSudo |
I think he meant, Can a 2nd root account be created.

no I meant canm I create a more traditional Linux model of root/user, its not really important, but it would confuse me less, its ok thanks everyone
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RootSudo I'll read that and change everything back |
You can enable a root password with sudo passwd If you type the normal user I think it should then ask you to type a new root password

I was able to login by default as root:password set up at install, it just would not show up in any of the options menus. I am pretty sure that it is a true root account because I can modify pretty much anything, including the /mnt/ dir. I am a n00b, I've been using this build for about a month and a half, please correct me if I am wrong. |
aka.angus; I don't believe your logged in as ROOT, just a prelivaged user. Ubantu is setup that way, from my understanding. It fealt a little wierd at frist to me.
But I just ordered my set of disks, when they come I'm planning on giving Ubantu another try. |
