Can't install Ubuntu 8.04 on Compaq Evo D510, but can install 8.04 LTS Server.
Trying to install Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop on a Compaq Evo D510 SFF ( P4, 256MB, 40GB IDE hard drive. When you try to install the Hardy Heron splash screen comes up, the a white rectangular box with a little install icon appears in the middle of the screen. The CD-ROM flashes merrily but when it stops flashing, the mouse and the computer are locked up, CD won't reject. - I have a similar problem when trying to install 7.10. I can boot to the desktop and then click on the "Install" icon on the desktop and the CD spins for a while then the computer locks. Interestingly, after these failed attempts, I was able to successfully install and configure 8.04 LTS Server on the same PC. Any thoughts, suggestions? Thanks.
