Can't Install 7.10 over 7.04

Hello,

I have an old Compaq Presario with 7.04 on it, and downloaded several ISOs of 7.10 to try installing. In either normal or safe graphics mode, I get past loading cups and end up with the "X" mouse cursor that just sits there and sits there.

The MD5 sum of the ISO I downloaded checks out, but the file test says there's an error in 1 file.

A couple of questions:

Is there a boot param that will boot in text mode from the regular CD? The description of the alternate ISO doesn't really sound like it's what my system needs.

Or do I just need to download the ISO yet again?

Thanks

Jim Stanley

Yes, unless you are hung up on pretty graphics during the installation, the alternate install CD will usually do a better job under a wider variety of situations.

.... and I downloaded precisely that, discovered my ISO burning software (Nero) apparently has a bug in it, downloaded an alternate ISO burner and am now up and running.

Thanks!
