Can't change screen resolution from 1280x1064 to 1024x768

Hi, when I go into System, Preferences, Screen Resolution, to change the default setting from 1280x1064 to 1024x768 it allows me to do so, but always changes it back to the original setting. How can I get it to stay at the setting I want? I'm running 6.06 and using a 17" crt monitor. Thanks.

Try (in a terminal):
Quote:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

can't change screen resolution from1280x1064 to 1024x768

thanks for the response. reverts almost immediately I change it to 1024x768 even though I set that as the default... also, I don't know if there is any connection, but in firefox, after I increase the font size, it also goes back to a smaller size the next time I open firefox. also , I don't have a video card .... my motherboard has onboard video and sound ... Cheers, Ron
