Can't boot from DVD distro; How/What to xfer to CD-r?

Hello Everyone, I am new to LINUX and have the UBUNTU 5.04 DVD distro from LINUX Magazine (Issue 53 March 2005).

PROBLEM: The target WinTel (Win98) machine has no DVD reader, only a CD Reader.

QUESTION: What files must I transfer from the DVD onto the CD inorder to be able to boot (and eventually install) UBUNTI onto the target machine?

The Wintel was running Win98 and eventually slowed to a creeping halt. It's to the point were, after several re-installations, it will not get past the win98 logo.

Thank You all for any help you can provide.

If you have a DVD-ROM on another PC, I would think that the easiest thing for you to do would be to temporarily install the DVD drive on the Wintel to install Ubuntu. I think this would be no slower than burning a new CD, and I'm not sure that it would be at all easy to make a CD from the DVD, if that's what you are asking about? If you can't install the DVD drive, then I think you would need to download a CD version of Ubuntu.

Thanks for the quick reply, rjwilmsi.

Unfortunately, I don't have a separate WinTel machine (only Apple PowerBooks) and shudder to buy any more gadgets. This distro DVD has 3 versions of the install (hoary, stable, unstable) and I only need one. I copied the entire DVD distro contents onto my hardrive and now I've only to burn the Correct files onto CD.

But which ones? (i.e Copy which files to CD to install the 'stable' version?)

Unfortunately, I live in the 'boonies' and am unable to download a 650MB file via dial-up.
