I am aksing myself where I could get detailed information on how the base of Ubuntu is built, what the Ubuntu specific structures and installed packages are.
Basically I want to know if I could follow some kind of guideline when doing an "Linux from Scratch"-build that would lead to a basic Ubuntu-compatible system, like Ubuntu Minimal. What packages and properties does a linux system need to be Ubuntu-compatible?
Thanks, but I don't want to know where to get Ubuntu Minimal, I want to know where I can find out how it is really built (from source). What packages are included etc. Or just information on what it needs to be Ubuntu-compatible.

Yeah, thats why I gave you link to Ubuntu minimal- extract the sqfs out of the cd then extract the sqfs which is the base filesystem, usquashfs name_of_squashed_filesystem folder_to_extract_to
