Bug in 8.04, fixed in 8.10 - How to get fixed in 8.04 which is LTS?
I found a bug in vinagre/vino in Ubuntu 8.04. The bug is documented and has been processed here: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=570801
My question is... How do I get the fix backported to 8.04? Where do I start? 8.04 is supposed to be supported through April 2011 so I don't think I should have to upgrade to 8.10 - that is why I am using an LTS release.
Thanks,
Ken

You can file a bug report at Launchpad. Here is how to do it:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs
Also go here to review bugs already filed:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/
And to file a bug, create an account and post your bug here:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+bugs/+login
If the bug is present in Ubuntu 8.04, and fixed in 8.10, then it is likely that the devs are aware of it already I would think. Check it out at Launchpad.

Thanks tommcd! I have reported it on launchpad. I have reported a bug or two there previously. I guess I am confused as to where to report a bug. Should I start by reporting it to the distro keepers (Ubuntu) or the application keepers (vinagre/vino)?
When I first installed 8.10 I found that mplayer was hosed (along with some other things). After doing some research on-line I got conflicting opinions as to was it a bug in mplayer, Gnome, X, Ubuntu 8.10??? I basically said pissonit and went back to 8.04 which seems to work fine for everythnig other than this issue.
I recently switched from vino to x11vnc as the latter is faster and less resource intensive on the remote machine. It also does not have the copy/paste issue so I am OK. I would like to get the issue fixed in 8.04 however for those folks who use the vinagre/vino combination. Perhaps the launchpad report will do the trick.
Thanks again,
Ken

The Ubuntu developers repackage and customize many of the applications that are used in Ubuntu. So I would just report it to the Ubuntu devs and let them decide whether the bug resides in Ubuntu, or upstream in the application development itself.

Thanks tommcd, that sounds like good advice. I will do so in the future.
