boot error: request module runaway loop module binfmt -464c

Hello,

I bought from occasion a PC Dell 390 i5-2400 with Windows 7 64 bits.
I tried to install a Linux Ubuntu 16.04 Server edition for amd64 on it. After the first reboot I got these messages:

EXT4-fs (sda5) mounted filesystem with ordered data mode
request module runaway loop modprobe binfmt-464c

I found on another thread in this forum that it can be caused by running a machine 64 bits file system on
a 32 bits machine but my PC is 64 bits. I did not inquire other posts.

Any ideas?

Fredrik

PS After some wondering I run this fdisk /dev/sda on repair boot cd shell and I got the following:

/dev/sda1 <block size..> primary NTFS
/dev/sda2 <block size..> primary NTFS
/dev/sda3 <block size..> extended ext
Partition 3 does nt start on physical sector boundary
/dev/sda5 <block size..> Linux
/dev/sda6 <block-size.> Linux swap

It looks like the kernel is having trouble booting due to a module missing.

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/...ge-module-loop

I've never seen this before and I'm not sure if installing a new kernel will fix the boot error.

In regard to the "Partition 3 does not start on physical sector boundary" it looks like a write performance issue.
See here:

When I install a distro along side of another os I always create the partitions for the new install 'manually'.
It looks like you told the installer to install Ubuntu along side Windows:-
Is that the case?

Have you gotten the same boot error with other distro's?

Using the Live Ubuntu CD or DVD you have you might want to make sure that your machine is 64-bit. Run this and if the lm flag is present you have a 64-bit machine.

Code:
cat /proc/cpuinfo

Make sure that the .iso of Ubuntu that you downloaded is in fact 64-bit and not 32-bit.

By accident I downloaded a 32-bit .iso once for my 64-bit machine. Double check yourself we all make mistakes.

Did you check the integrity of your .iso file?

No I did not check. I just installed Debian 8.2 64 on side of Windows 7 (in place of Ubuntu Server) with the same partitioning and it works.

In the future you should always check the integrity of an .iso file.
IF the signatures don't match that you have a .iso that's not right or has been tampered with.

Glad to hear you have Debian working on your machine along side Windows 7.
Congrads!
