blue tooth ibuntu Logitech keyboard/mouse not working

Here is the scenario. . .
I have a laptop. . .Dell 1150. ubuntu installed, bluetooth device installed, and my bluetooth keyboard and mouse works like a charm.

So. .

I decided to load up my same exact Ibuntu on my desktop, use the same keyboard on it, and the mouse too. I tested it on the laptop, just in case it would not work in Ibuntu, and i didn't want to wipe out my Windows XP on my desktop and find out Ibuntu would not work on it with a wireless keyboard.
Since it worked very well with my laptop, I figured it would work just as good with my desktop.

So. . .

I wiped my desktop out, and installed Ibuntu. Everything worked fantastic. until I tried to install the blue tooth.

When I plug in my Blue tooth device, Ibuntu finds it, and asks to set up your device.
I attempt to set up my keyboard/mouse combo and it asks for a 6 digit code (like it is supposed to).

I enter the code and press enter. . .

From here, the problem starts.

Ubuntu "claims" to connect to the keyboard, shows it connected, but my keyboard does not work at all. Neither does the mouse that is built into the keyboard. I type and nothing happens.

This also brings up (sometimes) another message that says my keyboard is trying to connect to the blue tooth device please enter keyboard PIN. Well. . .I can't enter anything, because the keyboard does not work! The mouse does not work!

What can I do to solve this problem? I can (without any problems) disconnect and connect to my laptop, but i can't do this to my desktop.

Both are dell units. Desktop is about 3 years old, laptop is about 8 years old. both running Ubuntu, the latest version. Both recognize the blue tooth transceiver. I have tried different USB ports on the desktop with no avail.

I would really like to use my desktop as a unit to my TV with a wireless keyboard, not my laptop. It is much faster, more memory, and I can use the TV as a monitor.

any ideas or suggestions?

Dwayne

Maybe look at rfcomm.conf

Hi,

I had issues like this with my bluetooth gps device. Same issue, showed connected but would not stream data. Here is a link to my thread that got things working. The issue is that I ended up controlling the connection from the CLI rather than using bluman. how we got it fixed link.

Let me know if you have any questions. I have not used ibuntu. I assume its just a re-ski8nned ubuntu or something. Also, I am assuming that your using the same rf dongle on both the lappy and the desktop?

First of all, let me apologise. . .I mistyped and meant to type Ubuntu.

Yes, I am using the exact same RF dongle on both machines. I figured if I got it working on my laptop, it should easily work on my desktop. I guess I was wrong. Murphy took care of me again.

I have a desktop that is much more powerful than the laptop. I want to use the desktop as a permanent connection to my TV, thus using my TV as a computer screen. Then I can use the Internet to watch movies, youtube, or whatever. I do have a blueray device, but our Internet connection is only 500k down, and sometimes even slower. If you watch things through the computer, you can usually adjust the resolution to a much lower figure and have full stream video. Thus, my wanting to dedicate a desktop with a remote keyboard to the TV. I also have a couple of whippersnappers that are not computer savy, so automation is almost a must.
