Blank screen after upgrading to 11.04
 

Hello Everyone,

My Nvidia driver had some issues, i upgraded to 11.04 over the weekend and now all i m getting is black screen.

However machine is up and i am able to access my date through ssh from VMware client (installed on my laptop).


Any suggestions how can i bring back the display..!!

After referring to one of the posts on forums, i remove gnome and added it back

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install gnome-shell


it had fixed the problem.

The moment i open mozilla thunderbird - display disappeared.

I had a similar problem and it was due to the fact that I did not disable the Nvidia proprietary driver before updating.

It is always better to make a clean installation, but if you want to upgrade you should

• Disable all the proprietary drivers
• update
• re-enable all the proprietary drivers
