Post black screen after grub loader

Hi All ,

Ive recently installed Ubuntu 13.10 on My Lenova Laptop Z580 and updated it . Also installed bumblebee and configured it as optirun now works and can save some power on the laptop.

Now after the Grub Menu the laptop gets stuck with either a violet or black screen sometimes .Unlike PC I cannot hard reset the laptop every-time as it will affect . Sometimes I need to do it 3 to 4 times to get the Ubuntu start screen .

Another Issue is with the CPUfreqd as it throws some error message every time I install a package .

Kindly advise if I need to fix something on boot config and if logs will really help troubleshoot .

Thanks in Advance .

Hi Widget,

Thanks for the reply. Yes I've tried that but recovery stops at "starting clock tsq".

Do you ever get it to boot to the desktop?

If so have you looked at;
Code:
dmest
You list Fedora 10 as your distro. That is a bit old.

Are you using Ubuntu as your production OS or something else?

Hi Widget ,

F10 I used long time back when I've come to know about Linux . Now I'm busy with work as everybody is and not finding much time to play with Linux OS and I've forgot much of it .

Recently I got a Laptop Lenovo Z580 with Intel i5 core 3 gen ,4 Gig Ram and 500 Gb HDD with intel HD4000 and Nvidia Graphics as on demand .

I've managed to install Ubuntu along with Win 8 as it is one of Linux Os to support Optimus and no its not my production but thinking of using as personal desktop .

Regarding the violet & black screen it never allowed me to do a ctr+ alt F1 to get a terminal to pull the logs or get the output of "dmesg" .Even on the "recovery mode" it stops at as shown below .

I see that you use Raid. That brings another layer of complexity to things that I know absolutely know nothing about.

But I am not convinced this is actually a problem in this case. I am wondering if optirun may not be part of the problem. Obviously something is not working with your graphics.

I use ATI graphics I am pretty ignorant on nvidia.

I do know that Arch supports optirun, or claim to. Pretty sure Fedora supports it. The Debian wiki seems to claim at least some use of optirun.

Ubuntu likes to make it sound like they support a lot of thing by their efforts. I submit the idea that get this function straight from Debian.

This is something supported directly by the kernel. Most distros will impliment the stuff pretty well. Something you might want to consider.

Another thing I am not good at is typing.

I see that I mis typed that command;
Code:
dmesg
note the lack of the t which should have been a g.

Seems like the error could mean anything from a kernel bug to a hardware incompatibility. Have a look at this thread: http://superuser.com/questions/37894...c-on-pentium-4

If possible, try an older or newer kernel and see what happens.
