Belkin n300 usb in Ubuntu 8.04
I am running version 8.04 because the computer is running a CNC machine. I need to know how to get a Belkin n300 usb wireless adapter installed and running. I am new to linus and need all the help I can get. Anyone help this newbe ?? Thanks Carl.

I assume you are running a server because Ubuntu 8.04 no longer has any desktop support whatsoever.
A quick Google tells me that your Belkin probably uses a Broadcom chipset. I recommend you perform Step 1 of the following tutorial and then stop and post the information back here before continuing: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wi...Driver/bcm43xx |

Got so frustrated I ran a cable. I only use EMC2 on that machine to run CNC machine. I think that there is so much info out there it is hard to tell what you realy need. Thanks Carl

Hi Carl, why are you so frustrated? I posted a very helpful tutorial, specific to your problem, straight from the ubuntu.com website. All you had to do was Step 1 and then report the info back to us.
I can point you toward the necessary information but I can't fix the problem for you remotely. If you choose to use hardware with non-free proprietary firmware, such as Broadcom wireless, it will require a small effort on your part. |

I gave you a link to the official how-to from ubuntu.com, all you have to do is follow Step 1 and post the information back here, but if you prefer to follow some random Youtube video instead then I hope it works out for you.
If you strike out with Ubuntu 8.04, here are the instructions for installing EMC2 on Ubuntu 10.04 (the current Long Term Support release with support through April 2013): http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/emcinfo.pl?Installing_EMC2 |
