Backing up your system?
 
hey i wondering what really need to do to back up my ubuntu system?
does it have a backup utilitiy?
does it have a Ghost Like program that makes images?
do i just drag my home partition to another computer?

Anything you deem important. /home for sure. If you make significant changes to /etc, then back that up. Backup your kernel's .config also

does it have a backup utilitiy?
Tar is probably included. I like dar personally.

does it have a Ghost Like program that makes images?
The LQ tutorials have a howto using dd to create an Image of your hard drive.

do i just drag my home partition to another computer?
That would work too.

i've read in several books that backing up /home and /etc should be sufficient to recover a personal system. i'm running samba servers so i backup /etc and my samba shares.
