Azureus 2.4 and Ubuntu 5.10
 

Hello all,

I recently installed Azureus 2.4 on my Ubuntu box. Everything seemed to go well except that now when I try to download something via a torrent, Azureus says "There seems to be a problem with Distributed Databases port mapping (NAT/Firewall). I'm assuming this means that I have some sort of security system installed that won't let azureus communicate freely. I have no idea how to fix this problem. Any help would be great. Thanks!

What type of firewall are you running? Are you blocking the port that the bit-torrent is trying to use?

I'm not using any firewall that I'm aware of. If there is a firewall, it's whatever came with ubuntu. I'm not blocking the port either (at least I don't think i am), because the port test in azureus worked.

I had EXACTLY this same problem on Ubuntu Breezy with Azureus 2.4.0.0 .

The problem was that my JRE (Java Runtime Enviroment) was too old. You will need to go to http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp and download and install the latest version for linux.

Once this is done you should be ready to use Azureus properly.

If you're having trouble installing JRE then post a description of your problem here and I'll see what I can do.

I have the latest version of JRE. Any other ideas out there?

Well, have you made sure that you are infact using the latest version of JRE?

From the command line: java -version

And if it isn't the latest version then you will need to run (from the command line):

sudo update-alternatives --config java

So I checked my java version. I apparently have 1.4.2, although I installed 1.5 not more than a week ago. Is there a reason why my computer still thinks I have 1.4.2 instead of version 1.5? If I need to remove 1.4.2, how do I go about doing that?

Btw, did you forward the ports for azureus on your router? Because the message you receive doesn't seem to have to do anything with java.

I forwarded the ports for Azureus on my router but It's still not working. And when I do the update command that was suggested, there is no option for any version 1.5 of java by sun.

Well, it sounds like the newer java version hasn't properly installed.

You should concentrate on getting that working as it will most likely be the problem (99% probability) with Azureus 2.4 .
