hi, everyone appreciate some help/advice, installed updates on ubuntu 10.4 all i get is authentication issue, to remedy try the 'run this action now button'= no response desktop has dissapeared can only turn off by removing the plug? any ideas anyone?
this is assuming you meant ubuntu 10.04 - iirc, both desktop and server versions are unsupported.
no updates, and hardly any forum member will be willing to help with that.
install a current operating system (*), and in future, take better care of it.
(*) if your hardware is a bit older, you want a lightweight alternative to ubuntu - xubuntu or a different distro altogether
Many thanks for your advice plus I'm booked in to linux tutorials to help me along. Through the terminal this is what I have here;

In order to support this would you recommend installing lubuntu ?
This terminal was left abandoned and I've picked it up with little or no experience,however,learn I must although I'm gone 80 not 30 so the acumen is not as sharp these days so spare a thought.
