I installed the ffmpeg gstreamer plugins as noted on the ubuntuguide.org. For about 1 in 5 of the videos I watch everything is fine. but in the other 4 of 5 the video gets ahead of the audio by around 5 secs after two minutes into the video. If I skip to the two minute marker right after opening the file the video plays super fast in order to get ahead of the audio by 5 seconds!
I'm afraid I don't know what to do. I've tried reinstalling the gstreamer plugins but a no go.
The reason I am posting this here is because all of these files play correctly if I reboot into Mandriva Linux 2005LE or Windows 98SE(though 98SE has a problem decoding the video right, parts are a bit garbled but it stays in sync).
Also I am using the "Totem Movie Player" in both Mandriva and Ubuntu. I use "Media Player Classic" (
http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/) in windows.
My guess is it has something to do with a rounding bug i read about for whenever you have a strange FPS in the video like 29.97. But that doesn't explain why mandriva and windows stay in sync.
