Hello, I'm running edgy ubuntu on my dual core laptop with the smp kernel, and every now and then, my computer freezes up temporarily before recovering. Basically, it's just stalling for no apparent reason every 2 to 30 minutes. After it returns from being frozen, all seems to be well, until it does it again. It's driving me nuts!
I discovered this in /var/log/kern.log:
Code:
Jan 7 22:26:17 localhost kernel: [17186850.336000] ata2 is slow to respond, please be patient
Jan 7 22:26:42 localhost kernel: [17186875.312000] ata2 failed to respond (30 secs)
Jan 7 22:26:42 localhost kernel: [17186875.320000] ata2: command 0xa0 timeout, stat 0xd0 host_stat 0x0
Jan 7 22:26:42 localhost kernel: [17186875.320000] ata2: translated ATA stat/err 0xd0/00 to SCSI SK/ASC/ASCQ 0xb/47/00
Does any body have any clue as to what this means, or, alternatively, what one can do about such errors?
Please? Please? Please?
This is a brand new computer, and the internet has revealed NO answers to this error...
Thanks.
