Hello sulekha,
I am a newbie in Linux, but I have quite a few years experience in the computer industry overall. From what I see, aptoncd is a very very useful tool. The way that I would take advantage of it would be by creating ISO images and burning them to CD's or DVD's (if the list of packages are many or too big), THEN clean up the contents. Just in case you go "Oh crap!, I shouldn't have deleted that package!", then you can just go back and restore your packages, get back the one you need and clear the cache again.
You may wonder how to burn these ISO images into a CD or DVD, well, from what I've read in books, you do it this way:
dd if=/home/ubuntuadmin/aptoncd/aptoncd-20061106.iso of=/dev/dvdrom
I based this on the example shown in the web page referred to in your link.
I still need to figure out if this really works, I can't yet because I'm in the process of putting together my Ubuntu machine, it will be ready in a few weeks hopefully (if not months
). It seems to be a very interesting utility, specially for you who is constantly clearing out the archives cache.
Again, I'm a newbie in Linux but that's what makes the most sense to me.
If anybody else would like to teach me something new, please go ahead
Zac
