apt-offline - ERROR: FATAL: Something is wrong with the apt system.

I am trying to update Ubuntu Server (14.04.3 LTS) using apt-offline as the system is cut off from internet access.
The problem is that it does not have apt-offline installed.

So I tried to download it from here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/a...fline/download
And then uploaded it over SSH and installed by: dpkg -i apt-offline_1.1.1build1_all.deb
Next I have executed following to generate the apt signature file but unfortunately I ended up in following problem:
Code:
# apt-offline set /root/apt.sig

Generating database of files that are needed for an update.
E: Command line option --simulate is not understood
ERROR: FATAL: Something is wrong with the apt system.

Generating database of files that are needed for an upgrade.
Can anyone help what might be the problem ?

try this: http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/al...fline/download
you need trusty, not precise

Hi,
thanks for reply.
I tried with binary that you provided link but it ends up with this same problem:

Code:
# dpkg -i /tmp/apt-offline_1.3.1_all.deb
Selecting previously unselected package apt-offline.
(Reading database ... 65916 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack /tmp/apt-offline_1.3.1_all.deb ...
Unpacking apt-offline (1.3.1) ...
Setting up apt-offline (1.3.1) ...
Processing triggers for man-db (2.6.7.1-1ubuntu1) ...

# apt-offline set ~/apt.sig

Generating database of files that are needed for an update.
E: Command line option --simulate is not understood
ERROR: FATAL: Something is wrong with the apt system.

If I were trying to update a server with no internet access, I would install the programs I wanted to a 14.04.3 installation that does have internet access.
Then all you have to do is copy all the .deb files in that /var/cache/apt/archives/ to the /var/cache/apt/archives/ folder on the server. Then you can install the programs in the normal way - the download part is complete.

It is a good idea to run the command
Code:
sudo aptitude autoclean
before copying the .deb files.

If you don't want to actually install the programs on the connected computer, you can download the necessary .deb files without installing, by using the "download only" option.
Code:
sudo aptitude install --download-only newprogram
Then proceed as described above...
