apt-get repository setup

Hello,
I've one server and clinet machine running Ubuntu 7.1.
I've developed few applications like sip client etc...and packaged as rpms and installed on client. Now I want to setup repository of rpms related with the applications I've developed so that If I run apt-get and it should download latest rpms from server and install on client.
all downloads for rpms should be via ftp.
Plz advise

Mr. J,

RPMs are used with Fedora distros. Ubuntu uses deb packages.

Assuming your packages work properly with Ubuntu, you can add their location to /etc/apt/sources.list. Since you want to use ftp, the entry in the sources.list file would look something like this:

deb ftp://ftp-server/path-to-repository

For more information, check out these two links:

Hope this helps,
opc

Hmm...I had not thought of that. The situation would be the same if you used an SMB server instead of FTP. I suspect an anonymous account is out of the question?

I've never done this myself, but looking at the man page for apt-get shows that two configuration files can be used:
/etc/apt/apt.conf
/etc/apt/preferences
Although my system does not have these.

Also a quick Internet search brought this up:
http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/177
At the bottom of this page it shows how to include login and password in a file that is under /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/

Sorry I could not be more helpful.

Regards,
OPC
