Need to post some more info - kubuntu uses what desktop? Assuming KDE. Open a terminal and run an app by typing its name to see if the app generates an error message which may be helpful in troubleshooting.

Me too! Nice to see another Texan and Debian lover. Debian is my favorite linux distro. But I'm also a huge fan of FreeBSD which gave me fits for a while so I deserved this break!

I love FreeBSD - would be using it for a desktop right now if it weren't such a P.I.T.A. to set up as a desktop. I am exaggerating, but it takes some time to get everything working: printing, scanning, etc.

Debian is good - about 90% of the distros on Distrowatch are based on it - solid platform!

I know most are based on Debian which is why I went to FreeBSD. I haven't found freeBSD to be much of a hassle for the most part. It's very well documented and the FreeBSD user forum is great! Hope you give it another try.

Am thinking about it - not much to do this weekend so it's a distinct possibility!

I always install and then go to shell to finish my install. You probably know that but I thought i'd pass on something that works for me. Good luck!
