I've been reading and trying out the tips to the best of my knowledge accordingly but when try to recompile the alsa driver it still ends up with

i just tried a slax livecd, and the sound worked with it!! not even knoppix was able to get the sound working. now my question is am i able to copy the sound config from slax over to ubuntu?
thanks |

can anyone help me??
|
I'm entirely stumped.
My only suggestion would be to see what kernel and alsa version Slax runs, and then type lsmod.(in slax) then download the kernel that slax runs on and the version of alsa and modprobe every module that slax has loaded. |
what should i look under in lsmod?
|
anything that has to do with snd.

My apologies in advance for raising a dead thread...
I was having the same issues with the same soundcard on a 915G. I had to build alsa 1.0.9 with snd-hda-intel to get sound to work. I hope this helps others. |
This might be too late or too dead, but here goes.
I have the Intel 915GEV board, and was unable to get sound going as well. Search under my name "GreatBrak" under this forum for my posts, it worked for others but not for me, I see you have the same kind of hassles. Follow the links, it really works. Search under "GrootBrak" under Ubuntuforums.org for similiar threads. I finally got to compile. Even after installing Linux headers, image, and source files I was unable to compile alsa-drivers. The solution. I updated bunzip2, extracted the same files from Alsa website into the same folder and compiled with the same commands and then it worked. I really don't know if there was something else missing, but all of a sudden other "non-alsa" sources from other sites is able to compile as well after I extract with bunzip. Best of luck, I know how bad it is, I had no sound for months and now it is still very soft, and have found no solution yet. The threads had me chasing my own tail. I now run my output through an amplifier first. Will post a new thread regarding game sounds, check out for it and reply if you know the solution!!! |
