Only one problem, when we put in the ubuntu install disk it popped up to the main screen. We hit "Start ubuntu livecd/install" or whatever the default option is. And then we waited. It popped up the word "Loading" but never went any farther.
Last summer we had the livecd of ubuntu 6.06 working just fine but we couldn't get the partitions to work. Now we can partition it (infact we did last night with my copy of Debian Etch) but we can't get ubuntu to even load.
Is this just some bug, or are we doing something wrong?
I think we're going to try installing the Feisty Herd-5 release on it, and if that doesn't work I suppose we'll fall back on 6.06.
Any ideas?

Did you run the disk check to assure that the disk burned correctly? This should be done to save time. It sounds to me like you have a bad disk.
As for Feisty Herd 5, be sure to download a later version. I burned a CD for Feisty, but there was a known bug in the version that I chose. It wouldn't install.
Personally, I would recommend Ubuntu Edgy Eft 6.10. Here is a link to a site with a great guide w/pictures:

Scroll down towards the bottom of the page to begin.
The most important part is to get a good CD. I would suggest burning at a slow speed to assure accuracy.
Good luck!
