All media players close once they open something??

I just reinstalled my Ubuntu 7.04 and i did all the updates, and i installed automatix, installed the codecs, and when i go to play a audio or video file, any codec, even ogg, the media player flashes open and closes, no matter which one i use, has anyone had this happen before?? how do i fix this

A good start would be running the media player from the console to see what message it is exiting with.

After running totem through the terminam I went to open a ogg file, this is what was returned..

The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
(Details: serial 82 error_code 11 request_code 141 minor_code 19)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
