AlienFX Light problem

Hey,
My friend has an Alienware Area 51 7500 and he really wants to get ubuntu for it.
But the AlienFX lights are mounted as a USB drive, but its not a USB drive.
An error says
"error syncing - kernel panic" while it checks the usb ports, and then it freezes.
Any ideas what to do, maybe some boot parameters?

if i am not mistaken you can pass "nousb" as a boot parameter and it will skip the probing of usb devices. they still work you just have do mount them manually
