acpi for (K)ubuntu

Hi all

Has anyone got the ACPI function working yet on their laptop?

My newly installed Kubuntu distro came with a bad checksum error when I attempt to enable acpi under Klaptop.

Error message after pressing the "Setup Helper Application" under the acpi tab in Klaptop:

"The usr/bin/klaptop_acpi_helper application does not seem to have the same size or checksum as when it was compiled we do NOT recommend you proceed with making it setuid-root without further investigation"

I tried reinstalling klaptopdaemon (klaptopdaemon is responsible for klaptop_acpi_helper right?) via the internet using apt-get (disabled the cdrom source in sources.list), still the very same error.

If you got your acpi working on your laptop, could you post where you got your version from and the possible steps to get it up and running please?

Thank you in advance.

Yes, ubuntu 5.04 works nicely on my dell d600. the hard drive is powered down and the cpu throttled back as and when. Also it 'goes to sleep' when the lid is closed and the screen goes off when i don't touch it for a while.

Sorry i can't really help, as it just worked out of the box, and i've never thought to investigate how/why, as i just use it for light web browsing. however, i can confirm that it does work.....

Thanks nonetheless satinet. Your confirmation will at the very least allow to find a working version somewhere knowing that it does exist.

Although some help on this particular area would also be highly appreciated guys.

Oh, satinet, if you have a little battery icon in your system tray (on your task bar/Kicker), can you please confirm that your acpi is enabled under the acpi config tab after you rightclick on the icon and choose Configure KLaptop. Thanks.

OK i'll try that.

however, i should say that i installed normal ubuntu 1st then added KDE at a later date, so maybe that's something to think about....

I got acpi working by just clicking past the checksum message. Aside from the fact that hiberate/suspend doesn't work for my laptop (I more or less expected this), all other acpi functions seems to be fine.

Cheers.
