Hi all,
after almost one year of Mandrake, I switched to KUbuntu.
I not regret but for one thing:
with mdk I was able to access a lot of new symbols for my US keyboard,
through the use of Alt + keys.
It is the Alt key located on the right and in some way is connected with
the file latin.
Quote:
/etc/X11/xkb/symbols/pc/ latin
|
By simply modifying this file I was able to access all the symbols I wanted,
like European accented letters, and also "(" and ")" in a new location
(Alt < - Alt >).
With ubuntu you still have the latin file but the Alt +keys combination is
disabled.
Does anyone knows a mean of enabling the aforementioned trick?
For reference I list a brief extract of latin file:
Quote:
// Common Latin alphabet layout
//
// $XFree86: xc/programs/xkbcomp/symbols/pc/latin,v 1.3 2002/12/20 20:18:34 paulo Exp $
default partial
xkb_symbols "basic" {
key <AE01> { [ 1, exclam, onesuperior, exclamdown ] };
key <AE02> { [ 2, at, twosuperior, oneeighth ] };
key <AE03> { [ 3, numbersign, threesuperior, sterling ] };
key <AE04> { [ 4, dollar, onequarter, dollar ] };
key <AE05> { [ 5, percent, onehalf, threeeighths ] };
key <AE06> { [ 6, asciicircum, threequarters, fiveeighths ] };
|
For example to have parenteses using Alt+<>, change the lines:
Quote:
key <AB08> { [ comma, less, horizconnector, multiply ] };
key <AB09> { [ period, greater, periodcentered, division ] };
|
to:
Quote:
key <AB08> { [ comma, less, parenleft, multiply ] };
key <AB09> { [ period, greater, parenright, division ] };
|
Very easy... without any complication like using xmodemap or similar configuration method.
So, if I can enable Alt+keys...
Bye
