A root user issue - What should I have done to salvage the system

So here’s what happened. When I setup my system, I created the user mythtv. Now just before I was about to install mythtv, I decided that I wanted to only create this user after the installation of MythTV. So I created a new user – jongi. However, I neglected to ensure that this here user had the ability to be a sudoer. Unfortunately I only realized this after the successful deletion of mythtv user.

What would have been the best way of getting a sudoer user?

I have since just installed the full system. A bit of bore seeing as I’ll have to go through downloading around 250MB worth of data again. I think this will lead me to create a root user.

in grub press e to edit the normal boot line. stick a "1" on the kernel line there, hit enter and then "b" to boot. this will log you in in single user mode. then edit /etc/sudoers and add the relevant entry for your user. reboot. enjoy.

So even without sudoer rights, the jongi user would have been able to edit and save /stc/sudoers file? That will be helpful in the future.

Not really, by going to single user mode your effectively logging in as root.
