A different k3b problem

I am having a problem with my k3b that I have not been able to google up. I have tried running using sudo. I have my root account enabled so I have logged in as root and tried to run the program. I have run k3bsetup as root. All files are in ~/music and have rw permission.

I even tried this method

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/K3BHowto

and could not make it work. Here are the symptoms.

I open k3b and start a new project. Make a data cd. When I drag the .mp3 files into the burn window they have a small lock on them. The one that is usually seen on read only files. Remember I tried this logged in as root and the lock was there even while logged in as root. When I tried the method described in the link above I could not change the path. The add button was greyed out(even while logged in as root). I have verified that all packages are installed. I have purged and installed again. I have verified that the DVDRW drive works. I am lost as to what I am missing. This is a new, even reinstalled edgy-eft. If I try a force burn the files seem to be written to the cd, but they are empty. Only file names.

I need some new ideas as I am fresh out of ideas.

Why don't you try another program like Brasero? Just to make sure it's not an underlying library problem? Besides, it's a cool app

I have tried brasareo and it does work. I agree it is a cool program. I would like to use some of the advanced features of k3b. The problem is definately in the k3b structure. I just can't find it.

Tried running with normal user privilege?

Have you tried running K3b as normal user (no sudo, root user)? Otherwise it's strange. Do the "small lock" only appear in the burn dialog where you drag the files or also in the file browser above?
