A bug in tasksel caused me too loose all programs is there a way to recover

I removed 'print-server' from tasksel and it removed the entire ubuntu-desktop and all it's dependencies (basically all the GUI apps). It looked the same as if / got removed.
Is there a way to recover it.
I looked at following page it says it is a bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...el/+bug/150252
When this was happening I pressed Ctrl+C in between.
And I am able to go to command prompt of run level 5 by pressing Ctrl+alt+f1

I open tasksel and select Ubuntu desktop to install I get
Code:

tasksel: aptitude failed (100)
After that I executed
dpkg --configure -a
I got following error
Code:

ldconfig deferred processing now taking place.
