640 x 480 only Resolution Ubuntu 14.04 LTS in Virtual Box Windows 7

Hi LQ,

I'm trying to work on my Amazon Server and unfortunately they don't permit normal SSH logins, I have to use a .pem key which means I can't use my traditional web editor to make a website. So I'm trying to use Linux.

I've installed the latest version of Ubuntu in Virtual box, it installed fine but it will only let me use 640 x 480 for resolution which is way way way too small. How can I go about fixing this sort of thing?

What is your monitors resolution?

Did you try changing resolution in Control Center?

You have to install the Virtualbox Guest Additions in your Ubuntu installation. Info on that here: http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.html

Still not working. It says my kernel isn't supported. I switched to Xubuntu and VMware and it's working fine out of the box. Thanks for your help anyways.

Did you reboot the VM? The guest additions are loaded by the kernel at boot time, so unless you rebooted it they won't work.

Other than that, you may try reconfiguring xorg.
