6.10 Need mailserver + squirrelmail
I am using 6.10 edgy. I have followed the howto on how-to-forge pretty closely minus changing some package versions...
What i need is to setup a mailserver (i am currently on a Road Runner cable line if that makes any difference) and need it to function with PHP's mail function (im used to a windows env. where it just used the SMTP settings in php.ini but in unix it uses sendmail, again, no idea there)... I'd also like a squirrelmail interface...
I have looked over at flurdy.com but his tutorial only covers Ubuntu version prior to 6.10 (which didnt work when i tried it) and from what ive googled I havent been able to piece together a functional setup (ive reformatted tons of times just so i could start fresh)
so my question to you guys is whats the best wayt o tackle this... undoubtedly many folks are running a webserver setup with mail with version 6.10 so if anyone could help a rather newbish guy out id really appreciate it
As of right now I have php, phpmyadmin, mysql and apache all setup and working
thanks in advance for any help provided

first thing I would suggest is loading VMware Server... this program would allow you to play around with the settings of your OS and not cause you to have to re-format for a fresh start... as well this amazing freeware program takes a snapshot of the virtual system so you can revert back to the initial setup or when ever you choose.... it is very easy to install....
now for your problem.. there should be a sendmail component which needs to be installed... is that installed? i haven't used your version of ubuntu and i just installed the 6.10 version so i can't offer you much more help than what i have (which isn't much although i think if you get the VMware server installed you will love it. NOOOO i don't work for them but i did install it on my FC5 and am running three other OS's, Ubuntu 6.10, FC5 (for testing), and WinXP PRO)
hope you figure it out.... i might try setting up a fourth VM with your version of Ubuntu edgy? and see what i can find.
cheers,
B
