3G USB modem support on 12.04 LTS
 

I upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04 LTS, the first thing comes up is the HSUPA modem fails to work, normally I will see a pop up ask for PIN code, when entered I will be able to connect with it via the network manager. I can't tell what chipset it uses, but it worked fine on previous version, how do I install back the old driver, or this is a known bug on this beta version ?

The big question here is Did you file a damned bug?

These problems can't be fixed if no one ever filed a bug. The best way to find out is to file one and see if others are turned up in the normal coarse of filing.

One reason I quit testing and using Ubuntu is the number of people that install the dev release and then complain about it not working.

That is why it is out there folks. To not work. You install it, it doesn't work, you file a bug, the devs work on it if it is confirmed.

If no one tells them, they do not know. And then at release time people find it won't work on their hardware and complain some more. It is their own fault for not testing and not filing bugs.

When you installed this thing you were informed that it was not for production work. What did you think it was for?

It is for TESTING on real hardware. The devs use VB. The OS does not interface directly with the hardware. That is the ONLY purpose it is out there.

As it is an LTS release it does have 2 "beta" phases instead of one like the regular releases. Ubuntu does this because more people will test a "beta" than an "alpha". They need the diversity of hardware.

I always objected to this because it just brings in fools that don't have a clue.

File the bug. There may be one tester that has already filed on it. Nothing will be done until another user clicks on that "effects me to" button. Not one thing. Will be classified as "not confirmed".

For the slow of thinking that means "Will not be even thinking about this one".

Alrite will do, I rely on the cellular modem to connect most of the time, without it I can't do much, even worst the hardinfo does not show any info about USB device I am using, that's another bug I suppose... now I just purchased another made of modem and thanks God it worked !! so it is absolutely driver problem, maybe developers at Ubuntu decided to drop some support on hardware to make room for others.
