2 of something

I have two computers with ubuntu installed.
One has two sound cards (onboard, and pci)
Another has two graphics cards (onboard and pci)

I want to use the pci cards rather than the onboard.

When I dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg I specify the bus address for the correct graphics card and I get to see the GUI login screen for a couple of seconds then it goes blank. Presumaby because the onboard kicks in.

How can I disable the onboard things I don't wish to use?

Thanks

you can disable it from the BIOS

You should be able to disable your onboard video/audio in your BIOS.

I cannot disable it as such, but I am able to choose which one to use in the bios.
This is fine for Windows, but in Linux they still clash.
