16.04 - Permission denied though I'm sudo and have permission to file

Hi all,

I installed exFAT to be able to access SDCARDs formatted with this, and when installing from terminal I got this error:

Processing triggers for man-db (2.7.5-1) ...
/usr/bin/mandb: can't open /usr/share/man/man1/7zr.1.gz: Permission denied

And the installation continued.

I have seen this message before when installing, and I checked by re-installing from Synaptics, the same error occur there(in terminal).

I checked the file /usr/man/man1/7zr.1.gz and my User have full permission

Screenshot from synaptics atached.

Why am I getting this error?

My system is Peach OSI TW 16.04(I use my system for specific purpose and can't upgrade right now) - 64bit LTS - build on Xubuntu.

Kernel: 4.4.0-190-generic
DE: Xfce
WM: Xfwm4
Shell: bash 4.3.48

Thank you in advance

Jan

What are the permissions on the directory and file in question?

That can be an issue. It must not be owned by your user. Would be nice to answer to post #2.

Hi frankbell, I have attached screenshot showing the permissions

Looks like it has to do with 7zip which I had to install myself, in order to unzip .gz files as Archiver were not working properly at the time.

Should I change the ownership to root?

@pan64 -I have done so now.

I would check the other files in that directory and copy the permissions (from a working one).

Does the permission problem apply to 7zr.1.gz only, or to all 7z*gz files in that directory, or possibly to even more files?
How did you originally install 7z?
Maybe this problem is distro-specific. A search for Peach OSI TW 16.04 pulls up web.archive pages mostly...
