I finally managed to get working by checking the forum in voria.org. Although there were more or less the same proposals in various forums what was missing was a very specific entry in /etc/modprobe.d/samsung-backlight.conf:
Code:
#blacklist samsung-laptop
options samsung-backlight use_sabi=1 levels=8 force=1
In my case
use_sabi=1 was set to "0" rendering the driver unusable. For more details consult the link below.

After upgrading from 10.xx to 11.xx the FN + <Up/Down Arrow> keys which used to work in 10.xx for dimming the screen, seem not to be working anymore.
Even though Gnome3 brightness graphic shows that brightness is going up and down nothing happens on the LED display of my Samsgung RV511 laptop.
I have tried installing acpi, tweaking kernel parameters (as mentioned in other forums),editing X conf file to enable dimming (as I found that nvidia based systems required an additional setting: Option “RegistryDwords” “EnableBrightnessControl=1″) but no luck.
I even played with setpci but no joy there either.
Any ideas?
thx
