11.04 Hangs during installation

It goes through the kernel boot up, and the icon with the circle and keyboard. Then it stays on a blank screen with a large courser on the upper right corner. Then the courser becomes small. It sits their for a long time. Then the screen to boot or install comes up, and everything works fine. It hangs during the configuration process. I am unable to skip. I think it hangs during the kernel config. I click on the drop down arrow and see the fallowing:

ubuntu ubiquity : update-initramfs: generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.38-8-generic

My pc set up is as fallows:

Asus M2N-MX SE Plus
AMD Athlon64 X2 5000
A sata samsung lightscribe dvd
A IDE Western Digital HD (Do not know what model)
NVIDIA GeForce 9500

It is from a downloaded burnt copy. The md5 is good. I burnt it at a slow speed. I do have a known good 10.10, but it starts out exactly the same.

If you are asking if I have a GUI. Yes I do have a GUI. My card has a dvi output. I have a vga adapter that I attach it to. So I can use my kvm switch.

Try booting the live CD with nomodeset. See this to change the boot options for the live CD: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Li...uration%20Line
Pressing F6 brings up the popup menu. Pressing ESC, whether selections were made or not, removes the popup window but opens the boot command for editing. Then type nomodeset in the box. Then hit enter.
If this does not work, then I would try installing Ubuntu from the alternate install CD.

When you boot up the 11.04 alternate install CD, first run the option to check the CD for defects. This will at least rule out a bad CD as the source of your trouble. If the disc check reports errors, then the disc is faulty. If the disc check passes, then at least you know that the CD is good.

This may be heresy on an ubuntu forum, but if ubuntu won't install for you, try fedora. That _has_ a text option. at boot you type
linux text

and the interface is through ncurses. BTW Slackware does as well.

Well I decided not to install 11.04 quite yet. So I downloaded the 10.10 alt, and get the fallowing after I select install

create_floppy_devices[296] specified group 'floppy' unknown

Then it times out, and after time out it list some items. The first one says a kernel panic something about not syncing.

I have the issue fixed. What I did was disable the floppy boot from the BIOS, and the alternate installation cd worked. However I did try the normal installation cd and it still hung at the same point.

Thank you all for your time.
