[Help] Ubuntu 6.06's Persistent Feature
Can anyone please point me to the correct guide/tutorials on using the persistent feature (saving/restoring configuration) of Ubuntu 6.06? I'm using the LiveCD feature and would like to save my configuration in USB flash drive.
Am using Knoppix 4 LiveCD as well and it's damn easy (and convenient) to save/load configuration. But I didn't like Knoppix cos it's a bit messy. Ubuntu is very streamlined but there's no convenient way to save/restore configurations. I was at the Ubuntu forum before but all their solutions area a bit messy and sometimes hard to follow - some say this, others say that... |
I have no idea how "fix" your Ubuntu problem, but MEPIS has an OnTheGo feature that may be just what you want. Caveat: I know it only by description, I have never had occasion to use it.
BTW, are you using Ubuntu itself & Gnome, or Kubuntu & KDE? |
@archtoad6: Sory for the extremely late reply. Was busy with the "Windows" world but now back to tinkering with Linux. Am using Ubuntu (Gnome) 6.06 LTS - a fan of Gnome :D By the way, is MEPIS a Live CD? Also, does it have GCC and uses Gnome? Thanks :)

Yes it is live. In fact, it was a 1 CD "combo" -- live & install -- before *buntu was.
Code:
# which gcc |
Thanks for the info on MEPIS. I've just went through the Ubuntu's official forum and still, no solutions/tutorials/guides on persistent storage. Gonna give MEPIS a shot if all fails. By the way, I've browsed through MEPIS official site and I can't seem to locate screenshots. Do you happen to have links to some screenshots? Thanks again :D

Couldn't find any screenshots, what did you want to see?
I did find this tutorial -- How to Set Up and Use Your OnTheGo Drive in SimplyMEPIS 6.0. It's a bit brief, but I think you can follow it. I tried it out, here's what I did:
I don't know what would have happened if I had used the same ver. of SimplyMEPIS for both parts of my trial. I also don't know would have happened if I had used SimplyMEPIS 6.0. My main interest in OnTheGo is to transfer my desktop customizations to 6.0 from my current 3.3.2 install. |
Thanks for the instruction. Gonna try it out when I have MEPIS downloaded
