Question [boot] crc error

Hello all.

I had Ubuntu 6.10 installed and working fine. I have installed a GeForce FX 5200 so that I had more RAM available (onboard VGA :/).

The problem now is that when I reboot this error appears and system halts

Code:
Sarting up...

crc error

--System halted
Even LiveCD wont boot (ubuntu and kubuntu). XP boots with no errors.

Googled around and it seems to be a bad RAM module or a fried HD, yet I'm not sure.

Also, there is this thread from someone who had this kind of problem. It was a jumper problem. So maybe there's nothing wrong with the hardware?

Thanks in advance.

Remove the video card and try booting without it installed. If the system boots then try inserting the video card again and maybe disable the on-board video (or other video change is needed) in the BIOS.

Hello Lenard, thanks for your reply.

I had to remove the video card, there was no way to boot into Ubuntu. memtest86+ gave allot of errors but when I removed the card test was OK

Nevertheless this PC won't get another try so soon. It's a working station (better working than not).

Thanks anyway.

Sounds like something on the system is overlapping part the memory when the video card is installed. This is likely a BIOS setting issue or jumper issue, but I do agree a working system is nice to have.

You might want to check and see with the manufacturer of the motherboard/system if a BIOS or jumper change is required or if a BIOS update fixes the issue.
