After multiple re-install, deprecating to Dapper Drake and then using CDs to updgrade, this same Toshiba Laptop Satellite 1905-s304 has Gutsy Gibbon up, running, with wireless working faultlessly.

Go figure!

I have the same problem

I have the same issue with my laptop and from what i see it is a kernel or module issue. The module being used to access the cdrom is not the correct one. My laptop does have a sata hd but the cd is parallel. Why does ubuntu uses the scsi module to access my parallel cd? It works fine in gutsy and in dapper so the problem exists only on feisty AFAIK. is there a module i can force-load to use with the cd? sth like generic ata cdrom or sth? Gutsy has numerous other problems on my laptop besides this quite basic one and dapper is way too rusty to go back to. I need feisty until the next LTS. please help!
