LXer: ZFS For Linux Is Now Available To The Public!
Published at LXer:
For those with some extra time this holiday week in the United States, perhaps you want to try out the ZFS file-system on Linux? As was said this week when publishing ZFS benchmarks on Linux using the native kernel module developed by LLNL/KQ Infotech, the public release of this kernel module wasn't going to happen until the first week of January. Oh, yeah, like I am *EVER* going to use a binary blob to support a file system. The two *NEVER* mix. Why? Because if you have an FS in the form of a binary blob, it's impossible to run the system off of it unless you pay for the binary blob first and then install Linux.

Who said anything about paying? It is provided freely. Also if you are using an ATI or NVIDIA graphics card, guess what you are already using a binary blob. Don't like any kind of binary blobs? Try OpenBSD.

Did I even mention that binary blobs weren't good at all? No!
I only mentioned that they make terrible FS drivers. Why? Because then you can't boot your computer without the binary blob installed. |
On top of what I previously posted: Who knows when Orac£e with their evil tentacles that reach into every corner of FOSS will kill this off?

Not that I know of. I don't know for ATI anyways, but in order to get 3D acceleration on NVIDIA cards, you have to use the binary provided by NVIDIA.
