LXer: XP cheaper than Linux on new Eee PC 900

Published at LXer:

It sounds crazy to say this, but the XP-based version of the Eee PC 900 (the new version with the 8.9" screen) will actually be considerably -cheaper- than the Linux based version. At the official launch today, the company told journalists that "Microsoft has been a longstanding supporter of Asus" to explain the price discrepancy. Not only will you get 12GB instead of 20, I'm betting you'll get a load of crapware, too... Computer manufacturers install "lite" versions of programs (musicmatch, etc) and three-or-four ISP programs (AOL, etc). If the consumer purchases the upgrade / signs up for service, then the manufacturer gets a kickback. It usually takes about an hour to delete it all off a new computer. That's the reason I hate the re-install image rather than a real installation disc.

Well what would be the point of OPERATING a MONOPOLY if you can't LEVERAGE it?

That just shows that MS is willing to kick in the big bucks to try and stop Linux from being on any computer.
