LXer: World Wildlife Fund WWF format cracked!

Published at LXer:

I heard about the new .WWF format this morning. It is an initiative of the World Wildlife Fund to prevent people printing .PDF files. As a matter of fact, it is a .PDF format, but slightly modified and with the "no printing" flag enabled. But I don't like it when people are forbidding me something. It is sending the wrong message. So I set out to crack it.

A bit overzealous of the WWF to stop people from printing a PDF don't you think?

I am all for not printing wastefully, but this is just retarded.

Good job, but it's not really a hack, I mean it's just 'click to print' or 'export to ps/pdf'. These are features that are already implemented.

It is quite stupid to make a format that will not print. If I want to print it, I will print it. Heck I could even take a screenshot and print that if I wanted to.

EDIT: Just for that WWF, I'm printing another printer test page ... screw you and all the BS reasons you make up and say you're saving the planet !

I don't see why you can't have a PDF reader that can simply ignore any kind of security features in the first place. The way I see it, if it is on MY computer, I should be able to open it, modify it, bork it if I want, print it, etc.
