There would be some definite advantages to that approach - fewer unpatched security holes in the wild, and probably an easier time for support staff, since a lot of Windows users are traditionally unwilling to update - but the disadvantages would almost certainly be a deal-breaker for me if I was interested in Windows 10.

I've been administering a Windows 7 box for a few months now and already had to remove one 'update' whose sole purpose was to nag every user, every time they log in, to pre-order Windows 10. I dread to think what little surprises Microsoft would quietly install if they had free rein. Even if they didn't pull a Sony or install a keylogger (oh, wait...), I wouldn't trust them not to break some vital feature just before I needed it.

I started downloading the Chrome browser recently, then stopped when I spotted the must-receive-updates clause in the EULA. I do trust Google and their software on the whole, but that trust doesn't automatically extend to software that hasn't been written yet. I'd rather judge it on its merits when it comes out.
